Tanjore - an ancient city with historical importance, has been the cultural symbol of South Indian arts and tradition. Tanjore or Tanjavur has been ruled by Chola, Chera and Pandya kings. Tanjore was also once capital city of respective kingdoms during 600~900 AD. Fertile soil, abundance of water (cauveri river), talented labor, and dedication for improvisation of arts and culture has been important factor of Tanjore's development.

This section is just an introduction, over a period of time, this dossier would continue exploring Tanjore as a historical city. I am shortly planning to make a trip with my husband to explore temples in Tanjore.

The painting depicts Goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing strength. The painting depicts the feminine aspect of the Preserver is Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu. The Goddess of fortune. She is one of the eight facets of consort of Lord Maha Vishnu flanked on either side by elephants and all her entourage offering floral tributes to Her. It is strongly believed by many that this priceless artifact brings enormous wealth when it adorns the prayer hall of the owner. This Painting is also studded with pure gold and precious stones which is a unique feature of the ancient Tanjavur art. Besides, it has intricate art work.


This painting is in honor of Goddess Gajalakshmi.... goddess of wealth n prosperity. It took about 3 weeks from scratch to completion. currently the painting is for sale...5000/- ( usd $111).
